Hemlock Book Review (Thrilling Reads Review)
Hemlock leans more into romantic suspense than I expected—something I missed in the book description before downloading it via Kindle Unlimited. That said, Kiersten Modglin’s skill as a storyteller kept me turning the pages all the way to the end.
Told from the POV of Maggie Ellis, the story follows her reluctant return to her small hometown after a tragedy pulls her back into a life she thought she’d left behind. At the heart of it all is a long-simmering love triangle that’s been unresolved for fifteen years. But when Maggie moves into her new home, things take a darker turn: strange noises, odd smells, and the unmistakable sense that she’s being watched.
What follows is a suspenseful unraveling of secrets—both in the house and among the three main characters. While the romantic elements were heavier than I typically prefer, the twists and turns packed the punch I expect from a psychological thriller. And there are definitely some jaw-droppers in the mix.
Hemlock is a taut, well-paced psychological thriller with a strong undercurrent of romance. If you enjoy suspense wrapped in emotional tension and small-town secrets, this one will absolutely keep you on the edge of your seat.
