The Divorce by Freida McFadden Book Review

Publisher Description

What is a happily ever after really worth?

Naomi was living the quintessential love story. Boy meets girl. They fall in love, get married, buy a dream house, start a family…

Then—he kicks her out, hires the city’s best divorce lawyers, drains their accounts, and takes up with a 20-something.

It’s a brutal end to the story. Naomi should accept defeat: move into a dingy apartment, get back into the workforce, and piece together the shattered remains of her life.

Except, why should she?

Instead, Naomi fixates on her husband’s new girlfriend. What begins as cynical curiosity soon twists into obsession—and then into something far darker. As Naomi uncovers secrets she never imagined, she realizes her own life may be in danger.

But if it keeps her perfect family intact, isn’t it worth it?

Thrilling Read Review: The Divorce

The Divorce is another addictive psychological thriller from Freida McFadden that proves why she’s become one of the most popular authors in the genre. While I thought the story started a little slower than some of her previous novels, I’m glad I stuck with it because the payoff was absolutely worth it.

As the mystery unfolds, McFadden gradually builds the suspense before unleashing the kind of shocking twists that readers have come to expect from her books. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, she pulled the rug out from under me with several clever surprises that completely changed my perspective on the story.

Like many psychological thrillers, a few plot developments require a bit of suspension of disbelief. Some of the events are admittedly far-fetched, but they never took away from my overall enjoyment. Instead, they added to the fast-paced, entertaining ride that makes Freida McFadden’s novels so difficult to put down.

One of McFadden’s greatest strengths is her ability to create constant uncertainty. Every character seems capable of hiding dangerous secrets, making it nearly impossible to know who can be trusted. That tension kept me turning the pages well into the night.

If you’re looking for a psychological thriller filled with secrets, deception, unreliable characters, and unexpected twists, The Divorce delivers. It may take a little patience during the opening chapters, but the explosive second half more than rewards your investment.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Divorce. It may not be my favorite Freida McFadden novel, but it’s another solid thriller that showcases her talent for crafting unforgettable twists. Fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers should definitely add this one to their reading list.
